Orange you glad Christmas is finally over?

It's been leisurely since the holidays have for the most part ended. I'm doing some leisurely projects with the charcoals I got. Today project was an observation of oranges.

Counting down to Christmas Break

I only have 2 more days of school left, and both are exam days..... So I've been studying hard and I think I'm going to do well. I have 5 left to go Monday and Tuesday, then I'm out, I still have to finish the commission piece and then 2 more pictures for relatives for Christmas presents. I got one done today after finishing my 2 exams today. What do you think???

Daunting Task

I am faced with the fleeting time more then ever now. I have this weekend and next week to finish painting and draw a charcoal portrait. I would have been farther by now but I had the flu for Thanksgiving break and was forced to stay in bed for 3 days. However, there is no use dwelling on the past, I have to finish my art projects and unfortunately the sudden bombardment of multiple essays. And then after I hopefully survive next week, I have to worry about upcoming midterms the week after. I'm spread thin. I really feel bad for butter...

I would eliminate the portrait to give myself a little breathing room, but the widow of the man I'm drawing was so happy and proud, I could never take that away from her and back out now. She was so excited she bragged to her whole church about it. I really hope I win, it would really be a beautiful thing for her to know that her husband is still effecting us, almost immortalized by our love for him and by a portrait I hope.

Demon Faeries...

Zombie prom

It's the Halloween season and my school is having a zombie prom. So as part of the Advance Art club I stayed after school today and distorted a picture of myself on the computer and drew it.... Kinda free hand, not too much thought into it. What do you think?

Faerie Focus

More and more Competition's are pilling up. I have kicked the faerie project into high gear and have planned out the second picture and painted the setting.

Faerie

I think I would be happiest in video game concept design... My Dad always used to say something like," If you can find a job that you can't believe you get paid for everyday then you are successful in life." That meaning that If you do something you love doing for the rest of your life and then get paid for it, your successful, you have completed one of the goals of life.
So, inspired by my new found sense of purpose I drew a faerie of my own design. Any good?

Art....?

I've hit a bit of a cross roads in my life recently... Do I really like art or do I just think that's all I'm good at..... I don't know if art really makes me happy. Honestly I never really have a desire to just, do art. It's hard. It takes time and I don't have the patience. If someone tells me I have to do it I'll do it but other than that I don't really just go at it drawing. I doodle yeah, but realistic no. I want to do realistic stuff but what really makes me happy is drawing fun creature things, so now I'm curious.... What if instead of Biomedical art I did video game concept art..... I don't know. I just want to beat my head in just drawing things that u can just see. Imagination is just so much more interesting, but would I be cut out for that..... Or do I want to do something entirely different........ I don't know... Any suggestions? Please help, not a lot of time left to decide anymore....

Costume Revision

I had a costume sketch I uploaded awhile back and due to budgets and such I revised my original idea. There are some tweaks still in progress but you get the idea... not to mention every idea that popped into my head in the last 24 hours.....

First Fruits of Labor

So I got up at the crack of 10 o'clock this morning thinking about drawing. So with pencils in hand I sat down and drew from observation. It needs some work but it's not half bad.

Busy Little Bee

Today I got my portfolio reviewed by CIA(Cleveland Institute of Art). They said I had a superb ahead of the curve ability to draw and that what I needed to do was do as many drawings from observation as possible, so you can be looking forward to that. And I have planned out my Halloween costume idea, here's a sneak peek! Oh, and how cute are my stick figures!

Stiple Drawing

Portfolio Day is creeping up soon at a local art college. I can't wait to see what I can improve and get opinions on my new piece....

Contest Season

It's getting around the Contest season again. And you know what that means! Time to pump out some projects! I have Scholastic, West Tennessee regionals and portfolio day all fast approaching. Im planning on entering my old watercolor landscape into the regionals amongst some still lifes I'm in the process of arranging. Scholastic I'm probably going to do a high detail black and white piece of some stuff. that's crazy detailed. I'm getting really amped up. I will enter in the essentials this year!

And a new hope is to get into governor school too. 40 students for each program major in college available go to a college campus over the summer and earn college credits doing what they love! I applied for, of course Arts, and Sciences so that maybe if I don't get in Art I can at least look into all the anatomical things I'd be drawing. Not to mention I've always been interested in Science since I was a little 2nd grader running around with my little Science Rocks! tshirt. So, keeping my fingers crossed!

Personal Finance

This year it is mandatory for me to take a personal finance class to maybe avoid a repeat of the world financial idiocy in the previous years. After sitting in the class for a few weeks I've decided I'm going to try and time the market and wait for a disaster, or the calamity and panic coming with December 21, 2012. After every disaster the Stock Exchange takes a dip. So if I was to maybe try and time it and buy stock in mutual funds, if the price goes down. I then leave it alone until college rolls along. Even though it is risky, I'm going to try and get some mutual funds lined up to invest in, maybe look at stocks that pay dividens. Well, all I can do is cross my fingers and hope.

School

So, school has started up again. All my classes are great and I'm looking forward to finishing a perspective piece in Art 3. Math is awful though. I screwed up a few times and my grade can't be in a good place because of it. I'm anxious to do better, and I hope I don't get overwhelmed by the expectations of my Junior year. Regardless I'm sure this year will be great!

Hurricane Issac

So this coming Monday is the Republican Convention. For the second time in a row it will be postponed by the approach of Hurricane Issac. During the 2008 elections a Republican representative had said that he wanted god to rain out the Democratic Convention. Then Hurricane Gustav came and halted the Republican Convention. Conventions are important to giving political candidates a point bump in the polls that may make or break them, making this a significant early on loss to the Romney-Ryan Campaign.
Hurricanes are a impressive and humbling force of nature, or maybe God. Could it maybe be that god is trying to get a message across that he doesn't like the use of his name as a tool of hate and personal gain? Maybe he is even trying to protest the extreme interpretation of the bible that ignores the many aspects of this world he has created. Perhaps to quell this series of storm a change in mind set is needed in the Republican party. Just a thought.

Aurora, Colorado

A few days ago there was a shooting in Aurora, Colorado. 12 dead and 59 wounded at a Batman premier at the local theater. The shooter seemed to be just a normal quiet guy, studying to be a Neurosurgeon and he turns out to be purely sick and contorted minded evil person that wanted to see people suffer.
Do you still think that the gun industry should be less regulated? Why would anyone need armor piercing guns? All that needs to be kept is rifles for hunting and hand guns for defense. Assault weapons are purely un-nessacary. Shouldn't there be regulations on something that can kill your child or your mother or your father or you in the hands of people like James Holmes? What do you think?

Practice

Sometimes I worry that I will have lost a lot of my progress in art. So I decided in the middle of the night to make a goofy weird drawing, and I must say it's a pretty awesome weird drawing! I call it a Flabby-roo.

Daedric

Recently my new video game obsession has been a game called skyrim. Recently I finally reached the proper level to unlock one of the best armors in the game, Daedric armor. LUTE! :}

French

I may or may not have said but THANK GOD I'm out for French class with my old teacher! She had a tendency to not know what she was talking about. She would say to throw words from the question into your answer to make it right or tell us the wrong thing to study for an exam. She would barely answer questions, she would always give us the run around so it took 5 minutes of class time to find out what you asked in the first place. I am SOOOOO happy to be out of that class. Au revoir Mrs. C!

Dremel on!

I have finally become actually productive with my summer time! I started working on some stuff for Etsy.com today. After an agonizing 4 hours of dremeling I made my first 2 rings, one of which my mom already seems to have her heart set on cause of it's rustic quality. Any opinions? Ideas?
This is my first go round at making a ring...
Second time I got more creative and made an adjustable ring...

Transportation Challenge

Oil isn't going to be around forever and our rate of consumption in the United States alone is 19.6 million barrels per day. This rate of usage isn't sustainable and its damaging our planet. This week I ask you to instead of driving to get to where your going you walk, bike or take public transportation.

Challenge accepted???

Etsy

Lately I have been trying to decide what employment opportunities would be good for me, so I can make money to pay for gas and car insurance while saving for college. I thought about McDonalds, Kroger, Sonic or maybe Wafflehouse, but considering that those all are sort of the underbelly of the job market I decided to peruse self employment. I found a site called Etsy.com where you sell well crafted or customized pieces. I Intend to open a shop soon after finishing a batch of rings I'm working on. I also plan on painting some shoes among other things and selling them. My name on there is Elda Varron, please check out my shop once I get it set up!

Yet another kaleidoscope and negaized version of one of my old pieces that is my Etsy profile picture...

Kaleidoscope

Summer break has been a rather slow and boring time passing for me. I've begun developing a rather bad habit of staying up to un-godly hours and going to bed when the sun rises. Obviously this is a bit of a problem considering I'm sleeping through some of my meals and the day. However during one of my anti sleep montages I decided to open an Internet shop on Etsy. Im still deciding the name and such, but while brain storming logo ideas for the shop I made a rather unusual piece. I quite like it actually! What do you guys think?

Monster

I've been working on a blacklight poster in my class. It's where you paint white on black then neon colors over that. I decided I like mine better with no color. It was inspired by one of my earlier works of a spastic monster done in colored pencils. What do you think?

Honchkrow

I finally finished my other shoe last night! What do u think?

Poké on

I get bored with projects as easy as the next guy. So I took a little break and worked on my little Pokémon themed shoe design. Theres my favorite designed one, the Dusk Ball, my favorite one to use, the Quick ball, and the best one in the game, the Master Ball. To be honest though, I never was much a fan of the Master Ball. But looking at the colors on the shoe it needed some purples to even it all out and make it more pleasing to the eye. It's duller though since it's farther back, also because I couldn't mix the colors quite right. The other balls I just think look cool. And a little wisp to tie it all together. The painting flows well with where I placed everything so I'm happy. One down one more shoe to go.
